Measure Impact

All actions help or hurt our progress. Knowing how much is essential.

Numbers can be hard to internalize.
One million metric tons of emissions seems like a lot. Is it?

When our destination is zero, all emissions matter.
But context is critical so we can focus where it matters most.

Here’s a picture of Minnesota’s emissions:

In 2020, Minnesota's entire economy --
from homes to farms, businesses to buildings --

emitted 137 million metric tons of greenhouse gases.

Double that and you get what the Line 3 tar sands pipeline, permitted in 2020, adds to the atmosphere each year: 273 million metric of greenhouse gas emissions. (This total incorporates the 193 million metric tons from the expanded capacity of the new larger Line 3 pipeline.)

This graph compares the emissions either added or saved by specific actions, as compared to the state's 2018 emissions.

Little wins are good.

But they can't add up to anything if we give our progress away to the fossil fuel industry.

Our advocacy should always include what matters most.

Meet This Moment’s analysis is broad and deep so we can identify and create the opportunities for climate action that matter most.
